Spider???

Just look at this creepy thing that was waiting for me underneath the handle on my trash can this morning! I'm sooo glad I checked before I grabbed it to pull it to the road! I looked and noticed something moving and then I saw this guy. What is it? I think it's some sort of spider? Isn't he scary looking? Oh my goodness... I was terrified! It took me probably 15 minutes to get the can to the road! I didn't want to knock him off. I guess I was scared he would jump at me or something. I didn't really want to kill him. He seemed so intently busy working on this weird looking blob of green fuzz he's sitting on here. So yeah, I grabbed one of Bobby's work gloves. I could only find one, so I one handed the trash can, that is overly full, and walked backwards to the road keeping my eye on this little guy stopping every few seconds to make sure he wasn't crawling up my arm. I believe I would have had a heart attack right then and there if he did that! Ewwwww!!! If you recognize this little creature I would love to know what he is...

(Pay no attention to my dirty trash can please)

I have seen those at my house, but I don't know what they are called.

My stomach just turned over. Oh my heavens, I would have ran like the wind away from there.

That's a Spiny Backed Orb Weaver Spider. :). The green is probably an egg-sac, so if you don't want bunches around, go squish it!

Ickity ickity ick! I don't like any new wierd bugs. I can't even control my shudders and 'bug spasms' around the ones I'm used to seeing! You are brave, gal!!!

I had to look up info on this spider a few years ago and found out it was an Orb Weaver. If you had seen the other side of the spider you may have seen that it was yellow and looked like it had a smiley face on it! No joke. that is the first view I saw and that is what made me look up info on the spider. If I recall, they are not dangerous at all and actually eat other pesky bugs, etc.

Thanks Julia for the link! That's pretty neat! After the trash was picked up... he was gone. I guess he ended up in the garbage truck. His little green webby nest thing is still there though... do you think I should go smoosh it?

If I were you, I'd smoosh it if not for my fear that little bitty spiders would run out and crawl all over me. But you may not have that phobia. Well, you probably do now that I've mentioned it! But if you don't go ahead and squish it! If you do, get Bobby to squish it for you!

Literally, I am sitting at my computer looking out the window at that same spider sitting on a HUGE web. I watched it catch and kill a big old fly yesterday. I was totally horrified. I am glad to know what it's called, at least.

And I say make your man go squish the egg sac. That is totally what guys are for. Well, except for my husband and his crippling fear of spiders.

Have a great day!
